Tragedy Update ... My New Grab Bag, and a CU Freebie

Well, Mike is making strides on recovering the data. We are now in the process of trying to find out what all/if any is saved. We'll know at 1 am ... which at that point, the recovery process can begin and it will take about 24 hours to get it all. *sigh* This is so stressful! Mike, wonderful man that he is, is doing everything in his power to get things fixed.

Please everyone, take this as a message: BACK UP ALL YOUR STUFF DAILY! I'm completely devasted - I haven't backed up in over 4-6 weeks and I can't begin to tell you how much I can have lost. Not just my stuff ... but so much paid commercial use product! Oh, and of course, I had about 25- 30 products in various degrees of completion.

Once we have all the stuff back (major fingers & toes crossed) I'll be subscribing to Mozy Online Back Up Service. It's only $4.95 a month for unlimited storage! I consider this a very small price for peace of mind!! Mike has researched and feels this is our best option, but there are others out there as well. Look into this, and avoid what's happened to me!!

{{{UPDATE: Mike has been able to get all my files onto the recovery disk!!! We're transferring all files except zips and fonts - for that we're apparently going to have to buy another program (and yeah, more money ... but, at this point? I just don't care!!) - but it looks like I should most of my stuff back in another 24 hours or so!!!! Mike is my HERO!!!!}}}

On to other topics ...

I was amazed by all the responses I got to my "rant," but not at all surprised by what you all shared! It's really terrible and I'm not sure what the answer is, but this nation MUST not only address this issue of medical costs, but find a solution quickly. I received many private emails, many of which confided to me that they had had to drop their insurance completely because they just couldn't afford it. These folks don't deserve to have this kind of additional worry in their lives!

I do want to thank everyone for the encouraging words and all the thanks! It really made me smile (and relax a bit) to know that you all enjoyed my gift!

*** Today's Topic ***

Are We Too Dependent On Our Computers?

Well, my EHD crashing and some friends catching some viruses on the pc's got me to thinking about technology. In some ways, we're so blessed to have what we have ... and in other ways, it's almost a curse! How many of us seriously get upset and depressed if something goes wrong with our stuff? I know I do! Do you feel that we're relying too much on our computers and the internet? Are we too dependent on them - for work, for play, making friends? On the other hand, I found both my late & current husband online ... and have made some super friends! Then again, you hear about people becoming addicted to their computers. What are your thoughts?

I HOPE you're able to recover everything!! I want you to know I've spent most of today backing up my files on DVD. Until I ran out of DVDs that is. lol I'll finish tomorrow after I go to the store & get more. (and umm, that's not even all my CU goodies) *huggles*

Thank you so much for the goodies, Babette. I hope the act of creation helped to distract you a little bit!
I know that I am one of those people that is rather dependent on my computer, but I have been "dependent" on computers for a very long time, having been a programmer for more than 25 years. I'm used to sitting in front of a screen and typing on a kb for hours ... only now I'm doing it for art and design work and fun :-).
Is this bad? I hope not! I'm enjoying it and making friends ... but when the electricity is out, I sure miss it!!! I'd probably spend more time reading if I weren't on this thing ... that's what my husband does.

I know just how you feel(well almost) My external hard drive crashed and all my hugware LD's fonts were on there. I was able to download the hugware and the LD's but some of the fonts can't be replaced. Ouch. I did lose some of my creations but they had already been backed up (Thank God) Good luck I hope everything works out for you. BTW Thanks for the freebies.

Hope you are able to recover all your information. It's so sad that so many of us today are dependent on our computers. I would be lost without mine. Yes, I have friends I chat with every day. And yes, I have my scrapbooking stuff. And I have all my financial stuff on it too. (I'm a spreadsheet nut!)
I have a backup external drive and I haven't given any thought to an online service...until now. *smile*

Hi Babette!!!

This is my VERY first time to your blog and I'm SO sorry to hear of your computer woes (I think we all grit our teeth and cross the fingers and toes even in our sleep that nothing goes wrong!)and I am thinking positively for a complete recovery of ALL of your HARD and TALENTED work girl!

I LOVE your CU goodies and have missed out on the past few grab bags, however, I am off to snag this one right after my post!

I am going to check into the online backup service immediately. I had heard about one in this price range a few years ago and could not remember where to find it. LOL! Out of sight, out of mind! I MUST get on top of things and I, too, would be devastated to lose what I've created thus far. I am behind on burning - never seems to be enough hours in the day, eh? LOL!

I won't even get started with our current health care issue. I think it's only a matter of time before the **** hits the fan and people begin to protest in a BIG way. Very sad situation and we just experienced a "wee" bit of it this past week.

Wishing you the best love and I'm off not only to purchase but to post a link to your blog (now that I know you have one!) on mine as I am a HUGE fan of LB Creations - Designs by Babette!!!

Thank you for your generosity even in your time of trouble - I have no doubt that it will come back to you in a BIG way!

Nice to meet you finally and I hope that the next time I visit, I shall be reading GOOD NEWS!!!

GO MIKE!!! WOO HOO, you CAN do it!!!

BIG HUGS,
Linda :)

P.S. ADDICTED? Uh, YUP ... and proud of it!!! ROTFLMBO!!! There is a "season" for ALL things and this is MY "season" to be ADDICTED to a GOOD and PRICELESS cause! XOXO

Yes, I am an addict! I spend time doing all sorts of things with the computer and on the internet. Just look at all the internet offers us, I can't tell you how many times a little research has helped a situation in our lives. And it's entertainment, social, it's our world's way of connecting now. And the computer itself, somehow my love of applications and appreciation for good ones has passed to my son, who developed that into his passion for creating user friendly programs. As a career. So, not so bad, that. And thank you for the gifties, too!
