Hi Guys! How is everyone doing today? I'm actually starting to feel NORMAL again! Wooohooo ... I slept w/out pain pills!! I'm still a bit tender, but nothing compared to how it was. So, I'm definitely on the mend.

*** Topic of the Day ***

So, how many of you are tired of watching the price of gas go up? And are they trying to get us used to the prices by dropping it a couple of cents, then a week later go back up a couple? Are we going to end up like Europe where gas costs are $10 a gallon? How are people supposed to get to work when they can't afford the gas and we have no real public transportation available in most areas of this country? How does someone who makes minimum wage afford to get themselves to work? We have the technology to make more gas efficient vehicles, and yet ... this doesn't happen; why?

What changes have you made? Are you making fewer trips w/your vehicles? Doing more carpools? Has the price of gas affected other areas of your life? I know for myself, I'm SOOO grateful that I work from home. We combine all our trips as well ... make a list of all stores, stops, etc ... and plan for them now. I know many can't afford to go on vacation this year; what's happening to our quality of life?

I'd love to hear thoughts and/or comments ... I really enjoy hearing from all of you!

:D woo hoo :D ty ty ty for the blog gift!!!
As for gas...if my hub didn't drive a company van back and forth to work we COULDN'T afford it!
When finances allow we have seriously talked about buying scooters for small trips into town and such (we only live about 2 minutes from town and if it weren't for a mile long steep hill, we would walk/ride bikes with the kids wherever we needed to go)...it is crazy madness for sure :)
so happy that you are feeling more normal!!!!

Thanks Babette! Well, I've found myself NOT going when I want where I want...I drive an SUV, but wouldn't be cost effective to buy a new one when this is paid for, sigh. :)

And you just might be making me go shopping ...... ;-)
I'm finding myself taking fewer trips to run errands and grouping as much as I can as often as I can. What's a vacation????? *sigh*

Around here, we are still paying over $4.07 for gas. In Idaho!!!!

Well, here's my solution for all the local stations that will not drop the price to the national average: Make more than 1 credit card transaction at the pump when you fill up.

Sounds silly? Any merchant will tell you that they pay a PER TRANSACTION fee and percentage fee to the company that processes credit cards for them. If you make 5 different transactions at the pump for 10 gallons of gas total, the station will be paying 5TRANSACTION FEES for your purchase! Those fees can be anywhere from 25 cents to 75 cents for each transaction. That should get their attention.

When the media reports that gas is going up, the stations hike the prices within hours. They didn't fill THEIR tanks at the higher price!!! And when gas goes lower nationwide, they say that the bought at the higher price and can't possibly sell lower until the current supply is sold. HOOEY!

If we could get a lot of people to do my little multiple transacion trick, I'll bet some local stations would drop their prices in a hurry!

And those that do quickly should be rewarded with a purchase in their convenience stores. They make much better profit on candy and soda anyway.

That's my 2 cents worth!

Oh Cauleen! Now, that's a fabulous idea!! I could imagine seeing all their faces if America stood up and did this!

Scooters? You know in Europe there are a lot of scooters for this very reason Fantacy - so it's actually a pretty good idea!!

Stacey, I think it would be hard to even get a decent trade in value at this point for a SUV - I also have a small SUV which is paid for, so yeah I'm stuck too ... but at least it's not too bad of a guzzler!

And Sheila ... yeah, I know - almost seems like vacations are a thing of the past! I'm not sure WHO can afford one!

Love the new overlays! Thanks for the treat!

My driving habits have definitely changed. About the only places I go now are church and the grocery store.

I love your bags, Babette! They keep me busy creating so I don't go out and waste gas on shopping, LOL.

Seriously, though, it's more than just filling up - everything is going up because of the cost of transporting it. Guess those truckers need to check their tire pressure :|

Beth,

Yes, I'm finding more and more of my friends - both online & in "real time" have basically eliminated trips in their vehicles if they can. Kinda sad, isn't it?

Anon,

YES ... it's definitely a spiraling effect and I fear it's only going to get worse! And ty, I'm glad that you are enjoying my grab bags!!

Manu,

Cindy,

Yep, that's what we're doing as well. I think most people are - how many of us can afford not to?? I'm really sorry to hear about your health concerns! I've also changed doctors to ones nearby ... my prior doctor was about 30 minutes away (w/traffic) and now I'm going to one just a few minutes away. I'm very lucky to have supermarkets, library, church, etc w/in just a few blocks - so glad we bought a house in this neighborhood!
